This post is a week behind the times, but Blog drive was down when I wanted to post and then when it was back up again, I got busy. But better late than never.
The debate over Pluto, planet, not a planet has been quite an electried debate. And it's now all over. Pluto, is not a planet. End of story.
Goodnight.

Uh-oh! Pluto may be unfrocked

Uh-oh. It looks like Pluto may be stripped of its planetary title in the coming weeks. The International Astronomical Union is meeting in Prague, to discuss many things, but the hottest topic of all is the definition of "planet." This new definition could change the way we learn about our solar system today. NPR has a story on this specific topic and featured it today.

Poincare Conjecture Possibly Proven

The Science Journal for the Wall Street Journal posted an article about a reclusive Russian Mathematician who is likely to be the winner for possibly proving the Poincare Conjecture. Since you have to have a subscription to the journal in order to read the articles, this link is may not work after a few days, but here it is. On the other hand, Math World News also posted an article of this likelihood here. Those of you interested in topology may find this quite intriguing.

Collapse is a really excellent book. Jared Diamond examines what causes civilizations to survive or not to survive, as a result of how they use and manage resources. I won't spoil the fun -- you've got to read it!
